The idea of group counseling can be scary! Sharing personal stories or feelings that have been buried …that can be unimaginable!
What if it could be different? What all you had to do is listen, be supportive, learn, and be present?!? That’s truly it. When people feel comfortable and trust the people around them they tend to share who they are and what they’ve experienced. In my groups it’s about trust!
Getting a diverse group of people together with unique experiences willing to share, learn, and grow can be transformative. The commonalities of “depression” or “addiction” or “emptiness” has the ability to build bridges, form new connections and move into healing.
One of the biggest benefits to group counseling is knowing you’re not alone in your experience. In group we create a space of sharing, reflecting, learning, and growing. Each group is structure enough to provide a container for each group member to share their experience, reflect on the topic of the day, provide feedback to other group members, and take solid skills to apply in the upcoming week.
I’ve facilitated groups since 2006 and absolutely love the power, comfort, movement, and therapeutic shifts a group brings to peoples lives. I’m excited to facilitate this group in January and to share in this journey with you.
